GOOD TO KNOW

Hi there!

Welcome to the website round and about the 6th Cybergroup BeachCup.

As everybody knows, before the event is already after the event, and so all the machinery has been set in motion to ensure that in 2017, too, we will be able to announce proudly: "It's all set up!"

First things first

The guiding principle to the event is:
fun + games + party = BeachCup

If you keep this principle in mind at all times you’ll have an eventful and memorable weekend as a guest among friends.

For 2017 we’re once more preparing all sorts of features – here are some of them:

The players.

Let's start with the golden rule. “Professionals" or even “professional mercenaries" may bring some short-term satisfaction, but what we are aiming at is long-term enjoyment for everyone. For this reason we request all teams to apply the principle of sporting fairness in selecting the team members – because please remember, what this event is all about is everybody having a good time.

The great day l When?

In 2017 the BeachCup is taking place on Saturday, 24 June.

Where? l Location(s).

One of the fundamental questions facing everyone who follows a call is:  where to? We would be crazy if for 2017 we decided in favour of any other place than the beautiful Ketsch. Why? Well, Ketsch still remains an attractive little town at the edge of the Odenwald, which places it at the heart of Europe. In the past five years it has offered us everything which makes an event of this kind extraordinary and unforgettable.

Address BeachCup:
Walldorfer Straße
68775 Ketsch

Address Players Night:
Bootshaus Mannheim
Hans-Reschke-Ufer 3
68165 Mannheim

But if you hear “Please turn around” we’ll no longer be in a position to help you. That's life.

How, when, what l The programme.

by 09:30 hrs - arrival and accreditation of the teams
from 10:00 hrs - start of tournament
approx. 17:30 hrs - final / end of tournament
from 20:00 hrs - Players’ Night and victory ceremony

Backwards and forwards l We’ll shuttle you.

We will once more be organising a shuttle service from and to these hotels, so that you will be able to leave your car at the hotel and really let your hair down in the evening.

Fans are essential l Families’ day.

What would Asterix be without Obelix, Laurel without Hardy, Romeo without Juliet – lost. For this very reason the tournament location will also be open to the whole family from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs on the Saturday. Anyone who is from the region and requires family support should enter the date in the diaries of their partners and kids without delay, because these often have a lot more social commitments than the ‘older generation’. And to make sure that no one suffers from hunger or thirst we are also catering for fans and guests in our ‘combined all-inclusive package’. With this package we are providing our guests and their fans with an all-in wristband costing €15, which covers unlimited food and drink for the entire Saturday. This means that you and your guests won't need to worry about a thing. Young people up to the age of 18 pay €10. Children under the age of 10 pay nothing.

As usual you will receive the wristband with your sports bags, so on your registration don't forget to enter the persons who will be accompanying you. No wristbands will be handed out at the event itself.

Clothing emergency? Suitcase too small? l Dress.

Everybody is expected to come wearing clothes. We aren't imposing any special regulations in this respect. For the active players in your team you will receive the necessary strip from us, so that you only need to bring the appropriate legwear. You're all so attractive that you will probably look great whatever you're wearing. The same applies to us, of course. For the accompanying social programme the dress code is ‘casual and comfortable’!

Pure relaxation l Wellness.

For most of you the sunshine of Baden will probably be a blessing in itself. But we will also be providing more concrete aids to relaxation. As part of the team of physiotherapists some experienced masseuses will be on hand to give your muscles a skilful kneading in between games. A 15-minute professional massage will be available at the cost of a voluntary donation. All proceeds will go to the children's cancer charity Waldpiraten Heidelberg.

What it's all about l The cup.

The top prize, the cup itself, is of course an honour which will cover you with glory for years to come. However, it first has to be won. Each year's winners are immortalised on the cup. The actual trophy used to be a handcrafted sculpture, but this fell victim to the incompetence of a UPS driver and had to be consigned to its final resting place. However, the new cup is no less spectacular!

Where to leave your car and valuables?

There is plenty of parking around the stadium. During your entire stay please take care to look after your valuables! The best solution is to appoint someone accompanying the team to guard your treasures in a bag containing all your watches, mobile phones, purses, Gucci spectacles, diamond necklaces, bridgework, passports and the like. You can then attach the bag to its guardian using handcuffs. (P.S. this should not be one of the actual players!)

We can't assume any liability for lost property.

What does the thing actually look like? l The ball.

For all those who may never have seen a beach volleyball: this is what it looks like. The ball consists of a soft, water resistant material – generally synthetic leather with a rubber bladder inside. It has to be resistant to outdoor influences such as water and sand. With a circumference of 66 to 68 cm and a weight of 260 to 280 g it is slightly larger than the indoor volleyball. At 171 to 221 mbar the internal pressure of the ball is, however, less than that of the indoor volleyball (294 to 319 mbar). And ours of course also looks pretty good.

Who knows what's going on? l Our umpires.

And to make sure that at least one or two participants in the event know what they're doing, the matches are umpired by professionals and a team of professional volleyball players will be taking charge of the running of the tournament. However, any obvious or not so obvious ‘incorrect’ umpiring decisions can be politely challenged.

MVP / MVB and MNT.

Outstanding performance will of course be rewarded in 2017, too. The following awards are at stake:

MVP = most valuable player (m); in other words “the guy who does it best”.

MVP = most valuable player (f); in other words “the gal who does it best”.

MVB = most valuable beauty; as everybody knows, it’s not just a question of sporting performance: we also reward the way it's done – how you celebrate the game and yourselves.

MNT = most nicest team; it's the team that counts and receives the award.

So do your very best – it's worth it!.
