ROULES OF THE GAME

Let's start with the golden rule. “Professionals" or even “professional mercenaries" may bring some short-term satisfaction, but what we are aiming at is long-term enjoyment for everyone. For this reason we request all teams to apply the principle of sporting fairness in selecting the team members – because please remember, what this event is all about is everybody having a good time.

Now let's take a look at the rules:
Beach volleyball is a sport in which two teams of four play against each other on a sandy court with a net in the middle. The ball is (can be) played with any part of the body.

A team scores points if the ball lands on the ground in the opponents’ half, and loses points if it lands in their own area. One player serves the ball by hitting it over the net into the opponents’ half with his or her hand or arm. Each team can strike the ball three times for the purpose of returning it into the opponents’ half. The team which won the last point serves.

Since 2001 the rally point system has also applied in Germany. This awards a point for every rally which is won, regardless of which team served the ball.

In the preliminary round each match will last 10 minutes without changing sides. The team that has the most points after these 10 minutes wins the match. From the quarter-finals onwards each match will have a playing time of 15 minutes. Only the final will be played in two sets. Play in the first two sets will be up to 21 points. If each team wins one set, there will be a deciding set of up to 15 points.  To win the set a team requires a two-point advantage, otherwise play continues until one team has a two-point advantage.

Three points are awarded for a win and one point for a draw.

A player is not allowed to strike the ball twice in succession.

A rally continues until such time as the ball touches the ground, goes out of play or a team fails to return it across the net.
